On this page, you'll find a list of helpful resources on employment discrimination law available online. We have organized some of the ones we think are particularly good by listing national resources first, and then listing resources by state in the table below. In particular, this article covers where to file a discrimination charge in each of the US states. If you click on a link below it will take you to a state's listing.

  National Equal Employment Opportunity Commission The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (the "EEOC") has a wealth of excellent information on discrimination, and is the place to file a charge of discrimination under many federal laws. There is so much information though, that it can be intimidating. The starting place to file a charge of discrimination is here:

  National ADA National Network National Network to provide information, guidance and training on implementing the Americans with Disabilities Act
  Alabama Alabama Department of Labor Alabama does not have an administrative agency in charge of enforcing anti-discrimination laws. If your workplace is in Alabama, you file a charge of discrimination with the EEOC.

Alabama's Department of Labor does have an office that accepts and investigates charges of discrimination in relation to programs in Alabama financed by Title 1 of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA). WIOA is a US federal Department of Labor program. The link to Alabama's Department of Labor page is here.
  Alaska Alaska State Commission for Human Rights The Alaska State Commission for Human Rights accepts and investigates employment discrimination claims.
  Arizona Arizona Attorney General Arizona's attorney general handles charges of discrimination in Arizona, and has offices in Phoenix, Tucson and Prescott. The EEOC has an office in Phoenix. The link here takes you to the Arizona Attorney General's website on filing a charge of discrimination charge.
  Arizona Community Legal Services of Arizona - Employment Law Community Legal Services of Arizona's page on Employment Law describes how to file a charge of discrimination with the EEOC or the Arizona Attorney General.
  Arkansas Cox, Sterling, McClure & Vandiver Arkansas does not have an administrative agency in charge of enforcing anti-discrimination laws. If your workplace is in Arkansas, you file a charge of discrimination with the EEOC. This website is from an Arkansas employment law firm that has a helpful graphic explaining the process for filing with the EEOC.
  California California Department of Fair Employment and Housing California's Department of Fair Employment and Housing accepts and investigates charges of employment discrimination and has extensive information on discrimination issues. The page to start with your complaint filing is here:

  California California Department of Industrial Relations California's Department of Industrial Relations accepts and investigates claims in relation to retaliation and equal pay. The starting place to file a charge of discrimination with California's Department of Industrial Relations is here:

  California CalChamber Calchamber manages employee discrimination cases for employers and has some very useful online tools for understanding employment discrimination.
  California Legal Aid at Work Legal Aid at Work publishes useful fact sheets on employment discrimination law. You can find a full list of their information here. Some of the fact sheet topics are:

  Colorado Colorado Civil Rights Division The Colorado Civil Rights Division is the state administrative agency in Colorado for accepting and investigating charges of discrimination. The starting place to file a charge of discrimination with Colorado's Civil Rights Division is here:

  Connecticut Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities Connecticut's Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities is the state administrative agency that investigates charges of discrimination in Connecticut. The starting place to file a charge of discrimination with Connecticut's Civil Rights Division is here:

  Delaware Department of Labor Office of Anti-Discrimination The Office of Anti-Discrimination at the Delaware Department of Labor is the state administrative agency that investigates charges of discrimination in Delaware.   Florida Florida Commission on Human Relations The Florida Commission on Human Relations is Florida's version of the EEOC. The starting place to file a charge of discrimination with Florida's Commission on Human Relations is here:

  Florida Online Sunshine: The Official Internet Site of the Florida Legislature Online Sunshine is the internet website for Florida's legislature and is where you can find Florida's anti-discrimination laws.
  Florida Pinellas County Office of Human Rights Pinellas County's Office of Human Rights represents St. Petersburg.
  Georgia Georgia Commission on Equal Opportunity The Georgia Commission on Equal Opportunity is Georgia's version of the EEOC. You can start the process of filing a charge of discrimination with the Georgia Commission on Equal Opportunity at the link below:

  Hawaii Hawaii Civil Rights Commission The Hawaii Civil Rights Commission is the state administrative agency that investigates charges of discrimination in Hawaii. The Hawaii Civil Rights Commission's website is not very easy to navigate, so, unless you work for a company that has less than 15 employees (in which case federal employment law does not apply), we recommend you go to the EEOC website.
  Idaho Idaho Human Rights Commission The Idaho Human Rights Commission is the state administrative agency that investigates charges of discrimination in Idaho. You can start an inquiry with the Idaho Human Rights Commission by going to this link: 

  Illinois Illinois Department of Human Rights - Filing a charge of discrimination The Illinios Department of Human Rights is Illinois' version of the EEOC. The linked page leads you to how to file a charge of discrimination against your employer in Illinois.

  Minnesota Minnesota Department of Human Rights The Minnesota Department of Human Rights is the state administrative agency that accepts and investigates charges of discrimination. To file a charge of discrimination, this is the place to start:

  Mississippi Mississippi Department of Employment Security Mississippi does not have a state administrative agency that investigates charges of discrimination. Charges of discrimination in Mississippi are handled by the EEOC.

  Missouri Missouri Commission on Human Rights The Missouri Commission on Human Rights is the state administrative agency that accepts and investigates charges of discrimination. To file a charge of discrimination, this is the place to start:

  Montana State of Montana Employment Relations Division The Employment Relations Division of Montana's Department of Labor & Industry is the state administrative agency that investigates charges of discrimination. To file a charge of discrimination, this is the place to start:

  New Jersey State of New Jersey Division on Civil Rights The State of New Jersey's Division on Civil Rights is the place to file a charge of discrimination in New Jersey. The link goes directly to the page describing how to file a charge of discrimination with the State of New Jersey's Division on Civil Rights. In order to access the intake form, you need to sign up for an online account, or contact the Division by phone.
  New Jersey Legal Services of New Jersey Legal Services of New Jersey has a helpful page outlining "What to do about Employment Discrimination" with an overview of the options for pressing a discrimination complaint in New Jersey.

  Tennessee Tennessee Human Rights Commission The Tennessee Human Rights Commission is the state agency tasked with accepting and investigating charges of discrimination in Tennessee. The link here goes to the Tennessee Human Rights Commission's information on how to file a discrimination claim.
  Texas Texas Workforce Commission The Texas Workforce Commission is the place to file a discrimination charge in Texas. The EEOC has several offices in Texas, where you can file a charge of discrimination. If you're looking for the state equivalent to the EEOC (which is a federal commission), this is it.

  Vermont Vermont Human Rights Commission The Vermont Human Rights Commission has information on anti-discrimination laws in Vermont.
  Virginia Virginia Attorney General Office of Civil Rights The Virginia Attorney General's Office of Civil Rights is responsible for accepting and investigating claims of discrimination in Virginia. The complaint form for a discrimination charge can be found here:

  Washington Washington State Human Rights Commission The Washington State Human Rights Commission accepts and investigates charges of discrimination. This page on their website has information on discrimination laws in the State of Washington and tells you how to file a charge of discrimination.
  West Virginia West Virginia Human Rights Commission The West Virginia Human Rights Commission is responsible for accepting and investigating claims of discrimination in West Virginia. The complaint form for a discrimination charge can be found here:

  Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development The Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development has information on employment discrimination, and is the place to file charges of discrimination in the State of Wisconsin.
  Wyoming Wyoming Department of Workforce Services The Wyoming Department of Workforce Services' website explains how to file claims of discrimination in Wyoming. The two complaint forms for discrimination charges can be found here:
