Today, Mark Tamminga agreed to lead the public interest work of PartnerVine Access in Canada. Tamminga was formerly a partner and the Leader of Innovation Initiatives at Gowling WLG, the international law firm. He has exceptional experience in delivering legal services with software for large companies, and will bring his expertise to democratizing access to legal services in Canada.
“We are thrilled that Mark is joining PartnerVine Access”, says Jordan Urstadt, CEO of PartnerVine. “Mark has decades of experience building practical solutions that deliver legal services faster and better for major corporations. Mark will now be doing that for all Canadians, which will help PartnerVine Access pursue its goal of expanding access to legal services. Mark has agreed to donate his time to this ambitious undertaking, and we are grateful that he has taken up the challenge. Particularly with advances in Generative AI and our work on using it for pro bono purposes, Mark and PartnerVine Access are well positioned to do some good for Canada.”
“PartnerVine Access is an extraordinary pro bono initiative, and I’m looking forward to contributing”, says Tamminga. “PartnerVine has done a great job with the Discrimination Claims Navigator, and our first project will be expanding it to Canada. Technology is rapidly changing the delivery of legal services, and I want to do my part to expand access in a way that truly works for under-served Canadians.”
PartnerVine Access is an initiative to expand access to legal services. The first project of PartnerVine Access is the Discrimination Claims Navigator, which is self-help software that provides an initial analysis of discrimination claims. The Discrimination Claims Navigator expands access to legal services by providing:

a standardized analysis with software to bring down the price of a legal analysis for everyone, and
access to the Discrimination Claims Navigator for free to legal aid associations and their clients.

The Discrimination Claims Navigator is not yet available in Canada, and Tamminga will lead the expansion of the Discrimination Claims Navigator in Canada, including by bringing new technology like Generative AI to the provision of legal services in the public interest and leading the effort to advance that technology in accordance with the rules of Canada, its provinces and Law Societies.
PartnerVine Access is a pro bono initiative of PartnerVine, the marketplace for legal products. With offices in New York and Zurich, PartnerVine helps law firms and in-house legal teams sell their legal products.

Today, PartnerVine launched access to UBS' regulatory know-how on the Swiss Financial Services Act (“FinSA”), Financial Institutions Act (“FinIA”) and revised Collective Investment Schemes Act (“revCISA”). The products have been prepared by UBS to provide access to the elements of UBS’ regulatory knowledge.
The UBS knowledge collection consists of 630+ questions and answers which have been developed for Swiss financial service providers. With the Q&As as its core element, the know-how collection includes decision trees, glossary, tables, graphics and cross-references to related topics. With access to this know-how, financial service providers in Switzerland can tap into UBS’s knowledge on Swiss regulations. This information is made available in English in an intuitive and seamless way on the platform of PartnerVine. Sample operational documents and client-facing forms are made available in four languages (English, German, French and Italian).
“UBS is offering access to practical Q&As on FinSA, FinIA and revCISA that they have developed for Swiss financial service providers”, says Jordan Urstadt, CEO of PartnerVine. “It is much easier and cost-effective especially for smaller Swiss financial service providers to plug in to UBS’s knowledge than develop it themselves. Because it is the first time that a large company has provided comprehensive access to their legal know-how, it is a major milestone for legal operations globally.”
“PartnerVine’s platform allows us to share our legal know-how on regulatory matters with other Swiss financial service providers helping them to navigate the complex regulatory environment.”, says Barbara Koch-Lehmann, Group General Counsel COO at UBS.
PartnerVine’s platform offers either full access to the complete package or topic-specific access to separate smaller bundles focused on specific issues like Scope, Client Classification, Information Duties & Communication and Documentation & Delivery of Documents as well as selected subtopics such as e.g. material or personal Scope. The types of forms in the packages include, among others, client classification forms and the client communications that UBS’ Group General Counsel has developed to comply with the requirements of the Swiss regulations. The guidance and forms are delivered as pdfs ”as is”, i.e. as static documents.

Meyerlustenberger Lachenal pioneers tech-first strategy for M&A
Zurich, December 12th, 2017: Meyerlustenberger Lachenal (MLL) , a leading law firm in Switzerland, has launched its sale of automated legal documents on PartnerVine today. MLL is the first law firm in the world to sell automated merger documents to the public. M&A and post closing intra group restructuring are important parts of the corporate practice for law firms globally, and MLL is disrupting that practice by helping in-house counsel do more internal group restructurings and mergers themselves.
“MLL is stepping it up a notch with our tech-first strategy. We’re starting with intra-group mergers, where our automated documents will expand the ability of an in-house team to manage a merger. If that team needs custom advice, our services dovetail with our automated documents. That is the best way to integrate the advantages of tech with our comprehensive legal expertise,” says Alexander Vogel , head of Corporate Finance at MLL in Zurich.
”MLL is the leader of law firms globally with this offer. M&A and post closing integration work is a major revenue driver for law firms around the globe, and until now law firms have only pursued tech for M&A and post closing internal group restructuring if it didn’t threaten their margins. MLL is saying the emperor has no clothes for intra-group mergers, and giving in-house counsel the tools to do more post closing integration work such as intragroup mergers themselves. Since in-house counsel can access the expertise of MLL when they need it, it’s a thoroughly compelling offer the world has never seen before,” says Jordan Urstadt, CEO of PartnerVine.
MLL is starting its offer with a suite of intra group restructuring documents, and aims to expand its offer to a complete suite of documents ranging from standard corporate forms, M&A or finance related documents to ICT contracts in line with its main practice areas. In another first, MLL is selling automated documents on PartnerVine in both English and German, with French to follow soon. In addition, there are no restrictions on who can purchase MLL’s documents. If a purchaser of an automated legal document wants legal advice from MLL, a conflict check would need to be performed.
MLL is launching these documents in a beta version to provide an opportunity for early adopters to provide feedback, build the community and improve the offer.
About PartnerVine: PartnerVine is a common portal where the world’s top law firms sell their automated legal documents. From its beginnings on the back of a napkin with the support of PwC Switzerland, PartnerVine has been dedicated to innovation and bringing the strength of technology to in-house counsel and lawyers around the world. Leading law firm Meyerlustenberger Lachenal Ltd. (MLL) becomes the first law firm in Switzerland to provide automated legal documents to the public.

Zurich, December 12, 2017 – The legal industry is being transformed by technology and MLL is embracing its innovative potential. Whilst robots have not yet replaced lawyers, AI and LegalTech provide tools to automate work processes and change traditional service delivery models, increasing pressure on law firms to become more efficient and transparent. As an innovative and technology affine firm, MLL sees this as an opportunity and has launched an ambitious document automating project that will both streamline internal work flows and allow them to provide off-the-shelf legal documents in line with new client expectations. Lukas Bühlmann , Partner and MLL’s Head Digital, Data Privacy & E-Commerce, says “in a time where the ‘death of the law firm’ has been announced, MLL is taking concrete measures to lead the way in expanding its business model.”

40 legal templates available in three languages

Whilst many international firms work exclusively in English, Switzerland also has a very healthy SME sector with companies that tend to work in the local languages of the country. Being intent on speaking the language of their client, MLL is offering their legal templates in both English and German, with French in the pipeline. From standard corporate law documents and merger agreements to ICT contracts, MLL will provide around 40 templates by the end of the year, with more to follow.

PartnerVine and Exari as strategic partners

MLL uses Exari’s world leading Exari DocGen TM document automation software as a platform to map out their legal templates. The building bloc structure of the process and centralized content database provides a powerful tool to further increase internal efficiency and consistency. The templates are made available to the public via the PartnerVine platform, whose mission is to bring transparency and choice to in-house counsels. PartnerVine’s website has launched in Beta and provides Swiss law documents to the public, with MLL being the first law firm to join as a key content provider.

PwC Switzerland and MLL sell Automated D ocuments to the Public
Zurich, Switzerland: PartnerVine , an online portal for the sale of automated legal documents, launched today in a beta version. With PricewaterhouseCoopers Switzerland's legal arm ("PwC Legal") as its initial supplier, the launch is the first time a major legal service provider sells automated legal documents to the public, which marks a major milestone in how legal services are sold.
"PwC Legal has opened its Swiss-law automated document library for sale on an unbundled basis. From now on, customers of PartnerVine can start their in-house legal projects with the resources of major legal service providers, at a fraction of what it'd cost to have us do the work manually. There's nothing like it in the world and we're thrilled to be leading the way," says Dieter Wirth, head of Tax and Legal Services at PwC in Zurich.
"The value proposition for in-house counsel is clear. You can get the document and guidance notes in a smart questionnaire that'll get you up and running for a fixed price. No more telephone calls to figure out the options--just buy your document and get going," says Jordan Urstadt, CEO of PartnerVine.
PartnerVine has launched in beta with a first set of documents under Swiss law from PwC Legal. PwC Legal, shortly to be followed by additional documents from Meyerlustenberger Lachenal ("MLL"). Subsequently, both PwC Legal and MLL aim to produce a complete suite of corporate documents aligned with their practice areas. During the beta phase, the documents will only be sold to customers that do not have an independence-relevant relationship with PwC (including, but not limited to, being an audit client of PWC). The launch in beta is to provide an opportunity for early adopters to provide feedback, build the community and improve the offer.
